Does HIPAA hurt religion?

In yet another example of disatisfaction with what was heralded to be a huge move forward in advancing patient privacy, clergymen haven't found out how to adjust to an era when they can't get information about whom to visit in hospitals.

While an article in Colorado's "Daily Camera", also covers the complaints of other groups concerning whether - and how well -- HIPAA is advancing its goal of paritent privacy, the complaints of clergy must rank up there with among the most unexpected developments growing out of the privacy regime, which went into effect in April of this year. http://www.bouldernews.com/bdc/health_and_fitness/article/0,1713,BDC_2431_2429257,00.html

HIPAA privacy protection hurting patients?

In a persuasively written piece, Meg Kissinger of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, writes about how patient care is actually suffering due to fears of inadvertent violation of HIPAA privacy regulations by medical personnel, who fear discussing treatment issueswith the patient's family.

For a straightforward illustration of how ongoing lack of familiarity with HIPAA regulations continues to counterproductively hamper patient care, read Ms. Kissinger's article, reprinted in the Sun Herald of South Mississippi. http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/news/nation/7282579.htm
